Incline Conveyor Operations Australasia

The ICO Conveyor Belt Arrestor has been designed and developed to catch (arrest) any incline conveyor belt that brakes or snaps due to normal wear and tear on incline conveyor systems. The Conveyor Belt Arrestor is mounted below the head pulley where most belt breakages occur.

The Conveyor Belt Arrestor catches both the top and bottom conveyor belts within 0.3 a second and prevents it from running back down the incline. Both ends are then in close proximity to facilitate easy splicing, reducing downtime by up to 90%. The Conveyor Belt Arrestor is a 100% mechanical device that is designed to operate only if there is a loss of tension in the belt.

In other words, the tension of the belt keeps the device open, and as soon as there is a loss of tension in the conveyor belt due to it being snapped or broken the Conveyor Belt Arrestors snaps shut almost immediately and prevents the top and bottom belts from running down the incline.

BENEFITS

The Conveyor Belt Arrestor reduces the risk of injury or fatalities and infrastructures damage due to belt and material rolling back down the incline conveyor structure or underground decline/haulage following a broken or snapped belt.

The Conveyor Belt Arrestor also reduces downtime caused by broken belts by up to 90% as recovery of the conveyor belt ends are more accessible to facilitate repairs and splice.

RESEARCH

The ‘Safety in Mines Research Advisory Committee (SIMRAC) conducted a study specifically focused on conveyor belt safety.

The report (ref GEN 701), conducted by Anglo Technical Division research agency in July 2001, listed several historic causes of accidents with one the most common causes of fatal and reportable accidents based on their experience as inspectors includes, "sufficient stopping devices not installed along the length of the belt"

INSTALLATION

Typically, a complete installation can be completed within a 12hour shift on an above-ground conveyor stringer which includes both the top and bottom Conveyor Belt Arrestor. The Conveyor Belt Arrestor is customised for each mine as no two Conveyor Systems are the same.

Our technical team will advise and install the Conveyor Belt Arrestor in the optimal position to provide the greatest possibility of catching a broken or snapped belt.

SIZE OF ARRESTORS

Conveyor Belt Arrestors are designed for each unique conveyor application, the existing manufactured sizes varied to fit Conveyors from 600mm up to 2,100mm.

Heavy Duty options are also available and are designed for each application.
